A 14-year series of leaf phenological data collected for European beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) and silver fir (Abies alba Mill.) from their geographic range margins in south-eastern France.

We present a dataset of leaf phenology observations on two forest tree species, European beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) and silver fir (Abies alba Mill.). Observations were carried out over 14 consecutive years, from 2006 to 2019, on 772 trees distributed in plots along two altitudinal gradients located on Mount Ventoux, France.

This database can be used to develop phenological models and understand the physiological drivers of phenology.

Purpose

This dataset was created to explore the phenological response to climate of two forest species at the rear margin of their range. It also allows the assessment of environmental determinants involved in bud development, leafing and senescence.
